In one Italian city, the government is paying for a settlement. The mayor of Candela, Nicola Guetta, took the step as the city's population dwindled.
According to the mayor, her goal is to bring the city's population to 8,000, as it did in 1990. The city now has a population of 2,700.
The city's streets used to get crowded with people and tourists, and people have moved away after the economic crisis. After that, various measures were considered to increase the population.
The mayor has decided to give 800 euros to singles and 12 hundred euros to couples under this offer. Families with three to five members receive between 1,500 and 1,800 euros.
People who want to live here will also be given tax exemption and child care facility. According to an employee who works with the mayor, living standards in the city are very good.
