What kind of vehicles are allowed on the polling day of by-election?

Apr 26, Kathmandu- The Election Commission has given information about the vehicles that can be used on the day of voting for the Ilam and Bajhang by-elections to be held on Saturday.

The commission has instructed the Chief District Officer for the smooth movement of the voters of the respective constituencies so that cleanliness, fairness and transparency are not affected in the by-elections to be held in the Assembly of Representatives of Ilam-2 and Provincial Assembly Constituency No. 1(a) of Bajhang.

Vehicles that can be used on polling day:

  1. Ambulances carrying patients,
  2. Water tankers,
  3. Vehicles carrying milk,
  4. Fire brigades,
  5. Vehicles used by journalists carrying identity cards issued by the Department of Information and Broadcasting or the Office of the Provincial Communications Registrar or the Communications Authority under the Provincial Government or any other similarly listed and operating media houses,
  6. Vehicles used for telecommunications and services only,
  7. Hearse,
  8. Vehicles used for the movement of doctors, health workers and employees who have an identity card working in the hospital,
  9. Vehicles used by observers, observers carrying identity cards issued by the Election Commission,
  10. Garbage Vehicles,
  11. Vehicles used for vegetables, fruits and electricity services,
  12. Vehicles with blue number plates used by officials and employees working in diplomatic missions, UN agencies and bilateral and multilateral development partner organizations,
  13. Vehicles with green number plates carrying foreign tourists only,
  14. Vehicles of security agencies used by security personnel,
  15. Vehicles used by staff and volunteers engaged in polling work to go to and from the polling station where they are stationed.

In addition, the Commission has also instructed the voters of the respective areas to make appropriate arrangements for public transport on the polling day, considering the need and rationale for easy transportation to the polling station. The candidate or his/her election representative has been instructed to make arrangements that only one (1) four-wheeler, three-wheeler or two-wheeler vehicle can be used with permission on the day of voting.

Similarly, the commission has also instructed to make appropriate arrangements for the movement of public transport vehicles on the national highways and subsidiary highways connected to the respective districts and if anyone is found using a vehicle contrary to this instruction on the day of voting, the security agencies and security personnel will take possession of such vehicle and arrange to return it only after the completion of the voting.
