By-election: Voting continues peacefully

Apr 27, Kathmandu- Voting is currently going on peacefully under the by-elections in Ilam-2 and Bajhang State Assembly 1 'A'. Chief Electoral Officer Keshav Prasad Ghimire informed that about 30 percent of votes have fallen in Ilam-2 till 12 noon.

It is estimated that most of the voters will go to the polling station to cast their votes in the afternoon as the weather is not too hot in Ilam even during the afternoon, and it is time for the voters to come after lunch.

Similarly, the police arrested four people with fake ballot papers from the polling station in Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus. Those returning after voting in the name of exit poll were arrested after setting up a table inside the polling station and casting a fake vote.

After it was found out that there was an act against the code of conduct of the election, the documents, fake ballot papers and fake ballot boxes of that group were confiscated. In Ilam-2, one hundred and fifteen thousand eight hundred and eighty nine voters remain. Arrangements have been made for them to vote in 79 polling stations and 149 polling stations.

On the other hand, voting is going on peacefully in Bajhang State Assembly. According to Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Lasimchane, about 14 percent of the votes have fallen there till noon.

It is expected that the pressure will increase in some time as it is time for the voters to come after eating. 74 polling stations and 93 polling centers have been designated in this area with a total of 61 thousand seven hundred and forty-eight voters.

Bye-elections are being held today for the seats that became vacant after the death of CPN-UML leader Subash Chandra Nemwang, member of the House of Representatives elected from Ilam-2, due to a heart attack and Prithvi Bahadur Singh of Nepali Congress, member of the Provincial Assembly of Bajhang-1, in a road accident.

The Election Commission has said that the ballot boxes will be collected after the voting is over and counting will begin today.
