Rapists will now be sentenced to death in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, the law has been amended to provide for the death penalty for rapists. As the number of rape cases continues to rise, the Bangladesh government has amended the law to provide harsher punishments for perpetrators.

According to Bangladesh's law minister Anisul Haque, the law will take effect on Tuesday after the president signs it.


Earlier, there were nationwide protests against a gang rape in Bangladesh. Protesters have been demanding harsher punishments for the rapists.
According to the Bangladesh Police, about 5,000 rape cases were reported last year. However, the number of convicts is very low.


Rights activists say that some incidents of rape have not come to light. He said that there should be a system of quick action in crimes like rape.


The current system provides for life imprisonment for rape-related offenses in Bangladesh. In case of death of the victim, the perpetrator can be sentenced to death. The government has amended the law to provide for the death penalty for perpetrators of rape.
