IPL: Delhi capitals won against Ragisthan Royals by 13 runs

In the 30th match of the IPL held on Wednesday night, Delhi defeated Rajasthan Royals by 13 runs to overtake Mumbai Indians. Chasing a medium target of 162, Rajasthan scored 148 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Rajasthan needed 29 runs in the last 18 balls to win. In the 18th over, Enrich Nortje took one wicket and scored 4 runs. In the 19th over, Kagiso Rabada took one wicket for three runs and the result was in Delhi's favor. Rajasthan needed 22 runs in the last over. Playing his debut game, Tushar Deshpande took one wicket and scored 8 runs to secure an exciting victory.

Rajasthan got off to a good start with openers Jas Butler and Ben Stokes sharing 37 runs in 3 overs. In the last ball of the third over, Enrich Nortze bowled Butler for 22 to give the first victory. Butler hit 3 fours and 1 six in 9 balls. In the last ball of the fourth over, Ravichandran Ashwin caught captain Steve Smith for a run off his own ball.

Tushar Deshpande, who made his debut in the second ball of the 11th over, took his first wicket by catching Ben Stokes for 41 off substitute Lalit Yadav. Stokes hit six fours in 35 balls. Akshar Patel bowled Sanju Samson for 25 in the fourth ball of the 12th over to signal Delhi's return to the game. Samson hit two sixes off 18 balls.

Rajasthan was in trouble after Ryan Parag was run out for one in the second ball of the 14th over. In the third ball of the 18th over, Nortje bowled Robin Uthappa for 32 off the yorker ball. Uthappa hit 3 fours and 1 six in 27 balls. Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten on 14 runs. Delhi captain Shikhar Dhawan suffered a shoulder injury while fielding in the last over of the fifth over.

Enrich Nortje took 2 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs. Kagiso Rabada took 1 wicket for 28 runs in 4 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin took 1 wicket for 17 runs in 4 overs. Tushar Deshpande took 2 wickets for 37 runs in 4 overs. Akshar Patel took one wicket.


Earlier, after winning the toss and choosing to bat at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Delhi had scored 161 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Captain Shreyas Air and Shikhar Dhawan played half-century innings to take Delhi to a medium total. Dhawan contributed 57 runs in 33 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Air contributed 53 runs in 43 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Delhi started badly. In the first ball of the first over, opener Prithvi Shala was bowled by Joffra Archer and returned to the pavilion at Golden Duck. Delhi were reduced to 10-2 after Archer caught Ajinkya Rahane off Robin Uthappa for two in the third ball of the third over.

Air and Dhawan shared an excellent 85-run stand for the third wicket to put Delhi back in the game. The partnership between the two players was broken by spinner Shreyas Gopal in the fourth ball of the 12th over. Dhawan Karthik was caught out by Tyagi off Gopal. He was caught out in the third man due to top edge.

Karthik Tyagi's big ball in the last ball of the 16th over was caught out by Joffra Archer in the air long off. Air and Marcus Stoinis shared 37 runs for the fourth wicket.


Marcus Stoinis, who played a big shot in the last ball of Archer's 19th over, was caught out by Rahul Tewatia at mid-wicket for 18 runs. Stoinis tried to play a big shot on Archer's bouncer but could not succeed. Alex Kerry (14) and Akshar Patel (7) were caught out.

For Rajasthan, Joffra Archer took 3 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs. Shreyas Gopal took 1 wicket for 31 runs in 4 overs. Karthik Tyagi took 1 wicket for 30 runs in 4 overs. Jaydev Unadkat took 2 wickets for 32 runs in 3 overs. Delhi will play its ninth match against Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah on Saturday. Rajasthan will play its ninth match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
