Government opening separate office to operate satellite!

October 15, Kathmandu

The government is going to open a separate office to install, operate and manage the satellite. The draft of the Telecommunications Act submitted to the Ministry by the Telecommunication Authority of Nepal has included the issue of establishing a satellite operation office.

The draft bill passed by the NEA board last year has reached the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology only a few days ago.

Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Hari Prasad Basyal informed that preparations are being made to take the bill to the Council of Ministers for approval on the basis of consultation with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Law.

It is proposed in the draft that the responsibility of operating the satellite can be given to the Telecommunication Authority of Nepal until the establishment of the satellite operation office.

It is said that the Government of Nepal will construct, install and launch, operate and manage the satellite itself with the help or partnership of the foreign government.

The draft also provides for the Government of Nepal to partner with domestic and foreign companies for commercial ground satellites.

After the establishment and operation of Nepal's satellite, the telecommunication service operating and broadcasting service organizations will have to operate Nepal's satellite using the satellite with the permission of the government.
