Five people have died on the spot and three others have been seriously injured in a Scorpio accident at Bhadaure Bhir in Katari Municipality-14 of Udayapur district on Saturday night. The Scorpio (Ba 20 Pa 7171) heading towards Okhaldhunga from Bhairahawa met with an accident on Siddicharan Highway at around 12 at night.

The identities of three of those killed in the accident have not been disclosed. According to the District Police Office, Udayapur, Ram Bahadur Sarki, 30, and Karmi Sarki, 26, of Manebhanjyang-9 in Okhaldhunga have been arrested.

Kumari Sarki, 28, of Manebhanyang-9, Kalpana Sarki, 22, of Okhaldhunga and driver Panav Khadka, 28, of Rupandehi Trigamwa Municipality-4 were seriously injured in the accident. They have been sent to Biratnagar for further treatment.

All the three unidentified persons died on the spot. The body of the deceased and the vehicle involved in the accident are still at the spot.

Police have speculated that the Scorpio may have crashed due to brake failure at night. The vehicle has fallen about one kilometer from the road. According to the police, all of them had come to Bhairahawa quarantine on their way home from India to celebrate Dashain.
