October 18, Kathmandu

A study has been started to connect Hetauda-Kathmandu Madan Bhandari road with Nijgadh-Kathmandu expressway. The federal government has started the study after the Bagmati state government proposed to connect the Madan Bhandari road with the Kathmandu-Nijgadh expressway.

The government has started searching for possible points to connect the state with the tunnel, which is being expanded with tunnels. The state government had proposed to shorten the road distance between Hetauda and Kathmandu to 54 kilometers if the federal government could connect the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Expressway with Bhimphedi Gaonpalika-8 of Makwanpur and Kogtedovan of Indrasarovar Gaonpalika-3.

After the proposal of the state, the government of Nepal has formed a task force and started the study. On behalf of the government, Dr. Pushparaj Kandel, Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, and Gajendra Thapaliya, a development expert to the Prime Minister, had observed the possible link between the two routes.

Speaking after the observation, Vice President Dr. Kandel said the new situation was created because no other route was envisaged at the beginning of the expressway. He said that the expressway monitoring committee has decided to coordinate with the state government during the construction of the expressway. He said that they have come for observation and study as the committee should coordinate with the states.

Mentioning that practical and general observations were made in the first phase, Vice President Dr. Kandel said that only after conducting a technical study will it be decided where and how to connect Madan Bhandari Marg with the expressway. He said it would be appropriate to connect the two expressways and that a study by technicians would draw final conclusions.

Gajendra Thapaliya, a development expert of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, said that the state government would extend cooperation and cooperation in widening various road sections under Madan Bhandari Marg, digging tunnels to reduce bends and establishing access to expressways to reduce distances. "The goal of the state to shorten the distance between Hetauda and Kathmandu to 54 kilometers is commendable. The government of Nepal is supporting it," said Thapaliya.

Chief Minister Dormani Poudel says that there is an urgent need for the state government's plan to level the Madan Bhandari road with tunnels and connect it with the expressway. He said that vehicles other than small vehicles from Eastern Nepal and Terai are currently forced to travel 768 km from Hetauda to Narayanghat and 152 km from there to Kathmandu for 228 km. He said that all types of vehicles can be transported by leveling the 54-kilometer road and the state will benefit in the long run.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Rameshwor Phunyal says that the work of leveling the Madan Bhandari road is in full swing except for the tunnel. He said that work is being done to widen the road, put up walls and repair it and work on black paper will start soon. He said that the state government was working to standardize the tunnel including the tunnel as a project of pride and the plan of Bhaise-Bhimfedi road expansion was also being implemented.
