Fourth day of Dashain, Goddess Kushmanda is being worshipped

October 20, Kathmandu

Today, on the fourth day of Bada Dashain, the great festival celebrated in Nepali society, worship of Goddess Kushmanda is being performed in Shakti Peeths, temples and houses of devotees.

‘Kutsitah Ushma Kushma Trividhatapayuta: Sansara: Sa Ande Mansapeshyamudarrupayaan Yasya: Sa Kushmanda:’ meaning the universe which contains three types of heat in its belly, is established under the name of Bhagwati Kushmanda.

Mother Kushmanda is worshiped as a symbol of good deeds or creation. It is mentioned in the scriptures that Goddess Kushmada appeared to create the world by holding threefold heat in her womb.

It is said that Kushmanda Devi has the power to create heat and cold.

These goddesses are mentioned in the scriptures as the mother of the warm blood group, human, bird and cold blood group, fish, snake and all other creatures.

If these goddesses have vadnavarna vaijani, she is riding on a lion. Mother Kushmanda is holding two pots of blood in her hand.

These two pots are said to be the basis of creation. Goddess Kushmanda created the universe, created the earth and ignited the sun god by giving her heat energy, and also created other planets and operated the entire solar system.

The cosmic meaning of Kushmanda is Kubindo. It is customary to worship Kubinda as a symbol of Goddess Kushmanda, a fruit that grows in hot climates but has a cooling effect.

In Shakti Peetha and Devi temples, Kubinda is worshiped and sacrifices are offered.
