Internet use is in high due to COVID-19

June 2, Kathmandu - Internet use is high due to covid infections. Internet service, which has become an important part of daily life, has not been a priority for the government for a long time.

Although the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology defined Internet service as a necessary service, it was not legally mentioned. But now the government has made the Internet a legally essential service. The Internet has been included in the essential services in the Gazette published on May 31. At the same time, the Ministry of Home Affairs has described two dozen services as essential services.

The list also includes telephone and communication services as essential services. Apart from this, essential items of daily life like drinking water, tourism, petroleum, banking, electricity, insurance, health centers and hospitals, medicines are included in this list.

The government has issued this list in accordance with the authority of sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Essential Services Operation Act, 2014. Strikes are prohibited in any of the essential services. In case of strike, the law has provided for action.
