Former Prime Ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Dr. In a joint statement issued on Saturday, Baburam Bhattarai criticized the government for taking "undemocratic steps".
The statement appealed to the Nepali people, civil society, and all democratic forces to show solidarity against the ongoing tyrannical attack on the constitutional system, rule of law, and basic principles and values of democracy in Nepal.
The statement objected that the caretaker government had taken anti-national and anti-people decisions to excavate stones, sand, and ballast from different parts of the country on the pretext of meeting the deficit budget. "Excavations in the Chure and Mahabharata ranges will destroy forests, dry up water sources and desertify the Terai region," the joint statement said.
