June 20, Kathmandu - The Department of Transportation is about to issue a separate card with QR code for the first one year period after passing the trial.
Earlier, preparations were made to issue such a card, but it was postponed for two months due to the Corona epidemic. Director General of the department Nabaraj Ghimire informed that a separate PVC card with QR code is being introduced and it can be used for a trial period of one year.
According to him, the driver who has passed the trial will be given a smart license only after one year and a license with QR code will be issued for that period. Stating that the traffic will check the driver's license based on the QR code, he said, "Traffic will know all the necessary details of the driver on the card through its mobile phone. After scanning the bar code, the police find out whether the license is fake or genuine.
Similarly, such cards will be distributed to the persons who have applied for renewal of driver's license till they get a new smart license. Director General Ghimire said that it was not a trial period due to the use of chips in smart cards. These cards will be distributed from 19 offices of the Department of Transport Management across the country including Kathmandu.
