June 29, Kathmandu - As the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress moves forward, the leaders have intensified the meeting.
With the Congress Central Committee meeting held on June 18 approving the new date of the General Convention, the activities of the General Convention have been increasing within the Congress. Within the Congress, the number of aspirants for party leadership is increasing daily. From the current establishment faction alone, there are three aspirants for the upcoming leadership. Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice Chairman Bimalendra Nidhi and leader Gopalman Shrestha are demanding for the chairmanship from the establishment.
Similarly, there are more than half a dozen aspirants from the faction of senior leaders Ram Chandra Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula. After many aspirants from the current establishment party, Congress leader Sujata Koirala is trying to reconcile the old establishment faction. On Monday, she called senior Congress leaders Poudel and Sitaula to her residence in Mandikhatar and tried to reconcile the old founding party of the party.
"There are many aspirants to lead the party. Ram Chandra and Sitaula have already come with a lot of grief for the party. I have told them to move forward together," Koirala told Rajdhani. She called Poudel and Sitaula, leaders who worked as companions of her father Girija Prasad Koirala, and had a discussion with them. Stating that Sitaula's efforts for the peace process have made the Congress successful, Koirala said that he was trying to find a new equation by including Sitaula.
