No Need To Carry citizenship and A Photo For SIM Card

July 22, Kathmandu- Telecommunications Authority of Nepal, the regulatory body of the telecommunications sector, is going to end the practice of having to go to the office of the service provider to get the SIM card. For that, NEA is going to implement a digital KYC (Know Your Customer) system.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided the program through the budget of the current fiscal year 2020/21. In which, NEA has stated that the digital KYC system will be implemented by the end of the current fiscal year. NEA has allocated Rs 400 million budget for that.

"Digital KYC has been prepared with a plan to end the days when service recipients have to carry the required documents including citizenship and photo when they go to get a SIM card," said Achutananda Mishra, co-spokesperson of NEA.

Mishra said the system was being implemented to link the telecom service provider's customer information with the national identity card. He said that this will help in identifying the customers of the telecommunication service provider and also in identifying the various services taken by the customers.

According to Mishra, with the implementation of this system, customers will be able to avail themselves of any service as long as they submit their national identity card number. For that, this system will also be connected to the system of the service provider.

It is also said that the details of which customer has taken how many SIM cards of which service provider so far can also be known from this system.
