Government's Unofficial Proposal To The Commission

Jan 18, Kathmandu- The government side has unofficially proposed to the Election Commission to hold the elections of all three levels at the same time.

A commissioner of the commission informed that the government has informally requested the commission to hold the elections of all three levels at once. Commission officials want to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and express their views.

"There has been an unofficial request from the government to hold elections at all three levels at once, but the commission has shown legal and practical complexity in holding elections at all three levels at once", The commissioner of the same commission said.

The CPN-Maoist Center and the CPN-Unified Socialists in the government have been pressuring the Prime Minister to hold the elections at all three levels simultaneously. Accordingly, some leaders of the ruling party and some government ministers have been putting pressure on the commission. However, the commission has been reluctant to move forward with the proposal.

The commission has shown legal and practical complexity in holding the elections at the same time, saying that the current constitutional and legal provisions do not direct the holding of the elections at all three levels at the same time when the expiration date of the term of local level and state assembly and the house of representatives is about 8 months.
