US Visa Ban On Chinese Officials

Mar 22, Kathmandu- The US State Department has said it will impose visa restrictions on Chinese officials for allegedly suppressing and discouraging human rights activists and dissidents in their own country and around the world.

Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken has accused China of killing Uighurs and oppressing them in Tibet and Hong Kong. He says China has suppressed and discouraged dissidents and human rights defenders.

"Those who abuse human rights will suffer the consequences", he added.

The United States has denied any wrongdoing by China in its efforts to prevent such a thing from happening. The U.S. sanctions target individuals who are responsible for the policies and actions of these communities, engineers, and civil society. "We are committed to protecting human rights around the world", he added.

He also accused Beijing of rejecting US support for the Uyghur people. Blinken alleges that China even prevented his family from leaving the country.

After a telephone conversation between the US president and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Friday, Biden warned that China would face 'serious consequences' if it rejected sanctions against Russia, and called on the US leadership to join Moscow. In response, Beijing said China was an independent country and had the right to oppose unilateral sanctions.
