Apr 2, Kathmandu- The YONEX-SUNRISE National Open Badminton Tournament will be held in Nepal from Monday with the technical assistance of the Badminton Association and organized by the Zesta Badminton Academy. According to the Zest Academy, around 300 players from different district clubs and three departmental teams of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and APF Club of the Armed Police Force will participate in the competition.

Men's Singles (Open, Women's Singles (Open), Men's Doubles High Singles 20 (Excluding Preference), Men's Doubles (Label C), U-17 Men's, U-17 Women's, Masters Open 35 Years, Masters Open 45 Years and Masters There will be competition in a total of 9 categories for over 55 years.

The competition will be held at the covered hall of the academy in Basundhara. According to the rules of World Badminton Federation and Nepal Badminton Association, the tournament will be played by Nepali national ROF and umpires.

In the early days, the academy had taken the lead in developing and expanding the game of badminton as well as providing training to the disadvantaged players in remote areas of the nation at minimum fees including kshatrabas, and producing healthy and quality citizens.

The first senior national level badminton tournament was started in the year 2073 BS with the objective of measuring the level of the players. Encouraged by the success of the first edition, the academy decided to continue the competition and successfully completed the second edition in 2074 BS and the third edition in 2075 BS.

Despite wanting to hold the competition every year, the academy has not been able to conduct the fourth edition on time due to the epidemic of Covid 19 in the world, which will affect the programs of the academy as well as all other regions, the academy said.
