Apr 12, Kathmandu- The water of Melamchi river has been diverted again. Minister for Water Supply Umakanta Chaudhary inaugurated the Gate No. 38 by diverting water from Diversion Gate No. 1 today. The Melamchi Water Supply Project was damaged due to the floods on June 15.
The government had announced to supply water to Kathmandu by mid-April. It is said that it will take another two weeks to provide water to Kathmandu even though the supply of water has started today.
The water of Melamchi Water Supply Project had started flowing in the capital from March 31 last year. In the second phase in April, 170 million liters of water was distributed in the capitalThe Melamchi Project Development Committee had shut off the water in the tunnel on June 15 for testing.
The next day, when the Melamchi River flooded, the water distribution process in Malemchi was disrupted. Executive Director of the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, Basudev Poudel, said that 265 liters of water was poured into the tunnel per second.
