PM Oli's question to former chief justices: "Do you give verdict from the street or from the bench?"

January  9,KATHMANDAU- Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has warned former chief justices not to rule from the streets.

Speaking at a program organized by the Oli-affiliated National Youth Association of Nepal at Pragya Bhawan in the capital on Saturday, Prime Minister Oli said the former chief justices were trying to influence the Supreme Court. Prime Minister Oli also questioned that the issue under consideration in the Constitutional Court of the court can be decided from the street, saying that the decision should be made according to what he says. He said, "Those who do not know how to respect the independent judiciary and talk about democracy, justice and constitution, decide from the streets or from the constitutional court."

Four former chief justices of the Supreme Court, Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anupraj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki, had issued a statement on Friday. It was mentioned in the press release that the House of Representatives was dissolved by adopting Article 76 of the Constitution which does not attract the right to dissolve the House of Representatives in any case except for the purpose of forming the Council of Ministers or for that purpose.

Prime Minister Oli had also mentioned that the court would not be affected by the speech made by Handi. Oli claimed that dissolving parliament was "unconstitutional" as he had a two-thirds majority in parliament and that others had no choice but to form a government.
