Municipalities’ Poor Performance And Irregular Expenditure Is A Matter of Concern: President Bhandari

Jun 30, Kathmandu: President Bidyadevi Bhandari has said that increasing irregularities in the municipality have become a matter of concern.

Speaking on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the Auditor General's Office on Wednesday, President Bhandari said that it was a matter of concern that irregularities were increasing in the municipality. He said that the leadership at the municipal level should follow economic discipline so as not to repeat the weaknesses of the past. He mentioned that economic purity is an important basis of good governance.

She said, ‘Past audit reports have pointed out that there are more irregularities. It doesn't seem to be relatively smooth. With the completion of the municipal elections and the beginning of the process of assuming new leadership responsibilities, the new leadership should follow economic discipline so as not to repeat the weaknesses of the past. We need to understand and explain that economic purity is the most important foundation of good governance. '

President Bhandari said that the Office of the Auditor-General should identify important areas of improvement including the regular flow of public services, development construction, revenue collection, distribution of resources from public bodies, and give important suggestions to the government.

She opined that the office of the Auditor-General should be able to maintain financial transparency in the federations, states, and municipalities. President Bhandari said that there should be integrated and coordinated development of all government bodies to create an environment of development and prosperity by controlling irregularities, leakages, and corruption in public administration.
