Deep Yatra Begins At Patan In Lalitpur 

Aug 13, Kathmandu- Deep yatra Mataya has started in Patan of lalitpur. mataya started from kobhal at 4 am. 

Every year mataya, which is celebrated on the day after gaijatra, worships various deities and daties  in the inner cities of patan. In particular, Buddhists goes to  Mataya with  lamp in their hands, donating various materials including paddy, rice, money, in the memory of their deceased relatives throughout the year. In this way this journey is called Mataya because it is done with panas, candles, etc. lit in the hand.

Starting from kobhal, Mataya will pass through Chakbahil, Tangal, Lagankhel, Haka bahal, Purnachandi,Bubhal, Gabhal, Nabhil, Sribahal, Natol, Pulchok, Nagbahal and end at Kobhal.During the journey one should visit the four village of Pulchok, Lagankhel and Gwarko in patan.Today their is a special activity in patan througout the day. 

Traffic in patan will be affected throughout the day as local residence and volunteers will gather to provide water, juice, and first aid service to those who have joined the journey.In Mataya of Patan, 10 tolls including Mangalbazar, Saugal, Nagbahal take the responsibility of management in turn.

This year's Mataya kobhal has been conducted by toll. Another attraction of mataya is Navbaja. It is customery to go on the route of Mataya by playing the traditional Dhaah, Damwakhin, Nyeku,and other Nawabaza.

Baja group will be doing a special programme today at kattik double in Mangalbazar. as a preparation for Mataya, the village has beeen training the young generation of their village in traditional instruments since a year ago. Apart from Patan, Mataya is also conducted in bungmati khokna thaib and other  places. 

Mataya lichhavi is believed to have started from the time of king Balarchandeva.
