Aug 13, Kathmandu- The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted more than normal monsoon rains during this year's monsoon period. According to the statistics of the department, most of the places in the country have received heavy rainfall so far. This year, from June 18 to July 26 (June 1 to August 11), a total of 858.5 millimeters of rain has fallen.
According to the climate analysis branch under the department, in the data of 77 centers, the average rainfall for the same period is 868.7 mm. According to which 98.9 percent of Average has received rain till July 26. The weather department has estimated that monsoon rains will be more than Sardar this year. Sardar refers to the annual average total rainfall from 1991 to 2020 from June 1 to August 11.
Sudarshan Humagai, a meteorologist of the climate branch, informed that since the beginning of the monsoon, 835.3 millimeters or 56.7 percent of rain has been recorded. The average rainfall of this year's monsoon is predicted to be 1,462 mm. He said that it is estimated that there will be more rain as it will rain for two more months.
Most of the areas of Province No. 1 and Bagmati Province as well as Gandaki and Sudurpaschim Province received more than Sardar rainfall. Most of the areas of Madhesh and Lumbini have received less rainfall than Sardar.
Monsoon entered Nepal this year on May 22. The four-month period from June to September is considered the monsoon period in the South Asian region. Monsoon enters Nepal through the eastern part. About 1,500 mm of rain is reported during the monsoon period.
Meteorologist Binu Maharjan of the Weather Forecast Division said that during the ongoing monsoon, there was more rain, especially in the hilly parts of the country, and comparatively less rain in the Terai region. According to the latest details of the department, the Monsoon low-pressure line is currently located around Sardar place on the east side of Nepal's Terai and south of Sardar place on the west side.
At present, there is partial to general rain across the country. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with clouds, thunder, and lightning in a few parts of the country. At night, there will be partial to normal showers in hilly areas of the country and partial showers in the rest of the country. There is a chance of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in a few places in the hilly areas of the country.
Meteorologist Maharjan informed that the weather will change on Sunday and Monday, and there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with lightning in most parts of the country. On Friday, the maximum temperature of Kathmandu is 30.5 and the minimum temperature is 20 degrees Celsius. Birendranagar has received 14 mm of rain and Pokhara 10 mm of rain. There is no rain in the capital Kathmandu since last night. Although the weather cleared in the morning, now the sky in the valley is partly cloudy.
