India Announced Ban On The Media Player 'VLC'

Aug 14, Kathmandu- The popular media player VLC has been banned by the Indian government. Along with the ban, VLC's app download links and websites have also been blocked in India. The company itself has also informed about India's ban.

According to the company, the ban has not been imposed on all but a few ISP networks in India. No official information is available as to why the Indian government has banned VLC.

However, some reports have speculated that India may have banned the app after it was revealed that the Chinese hacking group 'Cicada' was using this app for cyber attacks. Earlier, the cyber security research organization had released the information that the Chinese hacker group Cicada was sending malware to users' devices through VLC.

Based on the same study, it is estimated that the Indian government may have banned VLC. According to the company, the government of India has started banning VLC from February 13.

According to the company, the government of India has not given any answer as to why the ban was imposed on the app. There are millions of VLC users in India. In this case, the company has also requested the citizens of India for their help through Twitter.
