The move comes at a time when China's influence is growing in the country and in the Pacific region, which has worried the US and the West.

A week ago, the US Coast Guard ship was not allowed to stop in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, to refuel.

China signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands this year.
