Nov 17, Kathmandu- Steve Smith's unbeaten half-century inspired Australia to defeat England by 6 wickets in the first match of the one-day international series.
England, who lost the toss and started batting at the Adelaide Oval, lost 9 wickets in the scheduled 50 overs and prepared a total of 287 runs. In response, Australia completed the target with 291 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 46.5 overs.
For Australia, Smith played an unbeaten inning of 80 runs off 78 balls with 9 fours and a six.
Before that, openers David Warner (86) and Travis Head (69) got off to a great start with a partnership of 147 runs for the first wicket. Warner, who faced 84 balls for Australia, returned to the pavilion after scoring 86 runs with 10 fours and a six. Another opener Head was dismissed for 69 off 57 balls with 10 fours and a six.
Similarly, Cameron Green remained unbeaten on 20 runs. David Willey took two wickets for England and Chris Jordan and Liam Dawson took one wicket each.

With the win, the home team has taken a 1-0 lead in the series. There will be two more matches in England's tour of Australia starting on Thursday. The second ODI will be played in Sydney on Saturday and the final ODI in Melbourne on Tuesday.
