Dec 16, Kathmandu: The fifth National Flag Day is being celebrated on Friday to honor the national flag, the pride, and the self-respect of the nation.

National Heritage Conservation Foundation Nepal and Shad Bhawana Nepal and the National Flag Day Main Celebration Committee have taken out a rally from Maitighar to Basantpur to mark the day on Friday morning.

The national flag of Nepal is the world’s only non-rectangular flag which simplified combination of two triangular designs, representing mountains.

The crimson-red color symbolizes bravery while the blue border is the color of peace.

National Flag Day is being celebrated in commemoration of the day that Nepal's national flag was adopted globally at the United Nations.

National Flag Day is celebrated on Poush 1(December 16) every year.

Speaking at the event, National Flag Day founder Rajanand Mandavya, said that National Flag Day was celebrated on December 16, 1962 AD (Paush 1, 2019 BS), to commemorate the day when Nepal's national flag was adopted globally by the United Nations.

He mentioned that this day is being celebrated as a campaign to spread awareness because the flag is being misused in Nepal recently.

Mandavya emphasized that the national flag should be respected as it is a matter of pride and prestige for the country.

He said that the flag of Nepal, which is different in the world from the government agencies, has been found to be flying and misused, and the government agencies should be aware of this.
