Dharan Festival Begins

Jan 5, Kathmandu: A three-day Dharan festival has started in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City on the occasion of Dharan Foundation Day.

Dharan Day was inaugurated by a House of Representatives(HoR) Member from Sunsari Ashok Rai during a ceremony on the grounds of Dharan 12 Public School on Wednesday. Rai said that the local, state, and federal governments will cooperate in the development of Dharan. He said that everyone won the election and everyone had responsibility. Formally, everyone gets more responsibility because they get one more vote. Everyone is in the service of the state.

Dharan City Mayor Harkaraj Rai said that regardless of the party coming from Dharan and everyone is working together for the development of Dharan. He urged people not to doubt this matter and asked them to believe. Aindra Vikram Begha, Deputy Chief of Dharan said that all castes and religions are being respected in Dharan. He said that Chandra Shamsher settled Dharan 122 years ago in 1907 AD.

Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City has been organizing a Dharan Day celebration every year on January 4 as Dharan Foundation Day. This year marks the 122nd year of the establishment of Dharan. In the opening ceremony of the festival, various organizations from all the wards of Dharan, and all the schools also participated in the ceremony. All the participants carried the Dharan Day banner around the city. By doing so, various ethnic organizations of Dharan also participated in cultural tableaux.

During Dharan Utsav, the 'Go Kart' was built by 13 students studying in the third year of mechanical engineering at Purvanchal Engineering Campus, and the driver of the 'Go Kart' was built using old materials at a cost of 1 lakh rupees, said the driver of the 'Go Kart'.

According to him, the average speed of a 'go-kart' which runs on petrol and gives a mileage of 25 km per liter is 50 km per hour. He said that although the intention was to make an electric 'go-kart', it was built to run on petrol due to a lack of finances.

In the opening ceremony of the festival, Dharan former mayor of Tilak Rai was honored and various organizations, journalists, and singers who contributed to the social sector were also honored. The opening ceremony of the festival was addressed by former state chief Gobind Tumbahang, member of the HoR of Province 1, Ramesh Kumar Basnet, and others.
