Sankata Football Club has lifted the title of the 22nd edition of the Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup Football tournament 2023AD.
In a final match played at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, Sankata won the championship title second time after beating Bhutanese Youth Sports Club (BYSC) Minnesota of the US 3-2. Earlier too, Sankata had won the title in the 20th edition of the gold cup tournament.
The winning team has bagged a cash prize of Rs 1.2 million along with a shield, medal, and certificate. The runner-up team received a cash prize of Rs 600,000 with a shield, medal, and certificate.
Strikers Surajjyu Thakuri, Mesuke Olamaeu, and Sunil Bal netted each goal to put Sankata in a leading position. Likewise, Rene Santian and Wili Griffith made one goal from BYSC. When the 90-minute tournament ended in a 2-2 draw, Sanakata's goal in the 117th minute in the second half of the extra time went decisive. Sunil Bal netted the final to emerge Sanakata victorious with 3-2.
