Google Expels 12,000 Employees At Once

Jan 21, Kathmandu- Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company, is set to cut a large number of employees. This company is going to lay off more than 10,000 employees. Recently, Microsoft announced that it will lay off 10,000 employees worldwide.

The layoffs at Alphabet Inc. are seen as a major blow to the tech sector. Due to the fear of economic recession, the cutback phase started in 2022 in companies around the world, which is not stopping this year either.

Companies such as Meta (Facebook)-Twitter (Twitter) and Amazon (Amazon) have drastically cut their workforce. Now the name 'Google Alphabet' is also going to be added to this list. In an email sent to employees, the company's chief executive officer Sundar Pichai said that he will take full responsibility for the decision to lay off many employees. He said that this is the time to increase focus, make changes based on cost, and make talent and capital their main priority.

The layoffs at Google Alphabet Inc. will be global in nature. Alphabet Inc. has already emailed the affected employees, while in other countries the process will take longer due to local employment laws and regulations.

Pichai wrote in the email – 'Googlers, I have some disappointing news to share. We have decided to eliminate 12,000 jobs from our workforce. We have sent a separate email to affected employees in the US regarding this. While this means saying goodbye to some very talented people, we're also saying goodbye to people we've worked hard to recruit and love to work with. I am very sad about this. I take full responsibility for the decisions I make here.

In the past, Microsoft has laid off 10,000 of its employees globally. This figure is about 5 percent of the company's total workforce. More than 2 million employees work at Microsoft.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, also made such a decision last year in the name of cost-cutting due to the recession, from which 11,000 employees were sent back home. At the beginning of 2023, the e-commerce company Amazon gave a big shock to its employees and announced thousands of layoffs. Online retailer Amazon plans to lay off more than 18,000 employees worldwide, according to a Reuters report.
