Mar 10, Kathmandu- Barekot Rural Municipality of Jajarkot has started work with the aim of providing drinking water to every house within five years.
Bir Bahadur Giri, chairman of the rural municipality, said that the work was started with the aim of providing everyone with clean drinking water. He said that the rural municipality has started work from ward number 1, 2, and 3. In these wards, under the social mobilization of Helvetas Nepal, Rural Municipality, and Hill Area Development Campaign, a target has been taken to connect drinking water to 431 households within the current financial year.
This program is targeted at Khari, Bayal, Budhagaon, Silpachaur, Taliagar, Limsa. The scheme has been implemented at a total cost of 29 million 59 thousand 278. Similarly, a budget of 8 million has been allocated for the connection of water supply to 128 households in Dhyargaon, Garagaon, Kunauta, and Rokaigaon of Barekot-2.
Padam Rokaya, a resident of Barekot-2, said that the common people here, who have been suffering from the lack of drinking water for years, are happy after the water supply has been connected to their homes. According to Pradeep Jung Shah of the Hill Area Development Campaign, they are working in the field of mobilization to deliver drinking water to all the wards in cooperation with the rural municipality.
Currently, the rural municipality is creating a water use plan. Giri, chairman of the rural municipality, said that due to population growth, multi-use of water, lack of resources, climate change, and other reasons, the needs of people have to be met with limited water resources.
According to him, a comprehensive plan will be made and implemented on the matter of how to use water by prioritizing water according to needs. He believes that this will also solve water-related disputes by using water properly.
