Vianet Brought Nepal's First 2 Gbps Internet Based On XGS Fiber Technology

Mar 23, Kathmandu- Internet service provider Vianet Communication has introduced a '2 GPS XGS-Extreme' (2 Gbps XGS-Extreme) package based on XGS fiber technology. Through this, the first multi-gig internet in Nepal has been announced by the company.

Through this new technology, Vianet aims to establish a new standard in the country's internet sector. 'XGS-PON' i.e. 10 Gigabit Symmetrical Passive Network is a very new fiber optic broadband technology, which provides download and upload speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

Currently, the main method used for Internet distribution is based on Gigabit Passive Network (GPON). Gigabit passive network technology is the primary method used for Internet delivery, with a maximum download speed of 2.4 Gbps and an upload speed of 1.2 Gbps.

With the launch of XGS-PON, customers will be able to enjoy symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This technology has been chosen to provide a 2 Gbps internet service for the first time in Nepal, according to Vianet.

"Through XGS-PON, the company believes that Nepal will enter the new era of Internet. Now customers will be able to experience high-speed downloads and uploads as well as seamless streaming and great gaming," the company's statement said.

The company believes that this technology will prepare the company for new internet usage such as virtual reality, high-resolution video streaming, multi-device video streaming, and cloud computing.

The company said that in the first phase, the '2 Gbps XGS Extreme Package' will be provided only in some areas of Kathmandu Valley.
