Ozil Announces Retirement From Football

Mar 23, Kathmandu: Former German midfielder Mesut Ozil has announced his retirement from active football at the 34age. The former Arsenal and Real Madrid player won nine titles during his club career, including four FA Cups and the 2012 Spanish La Liga title.

Ozil, who played 92 games for Germany, was a member of the 2014 World Cup-winning team. Ozil started his career with Schalke and Werder Bremen. In 2010, he joined Real Madrid where he won La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup titles.


In 2013, he signed for Arsenal for a then-club-record fee of £4.24 million. At Arsenal, he won two FA Cups in a row. In the third season, he has declared the best player of the season. In 2017, he won the FA Cup again. In 2018, he became the club's highest-earning player.

However, the new coach could not be chosen by Unai Emre. In 2021, he joined Faberbach and in 2022, he signed with Istanbul Basaksehir. However, he could not play many games due to injury. At the international level, Ozil had the opportunity to choose between Germany and Turkey but he chose Germany. In 2021, when Germany beat England in the final of the European U-21 Championship.

 He was chosen as the man of the match. He was elected Germany's player of the year five times. But he retired from international football in 2018, accusing him of racism and humiliation. He was criticized in Germany after he was found taking pictures with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
