Maoists Called A Parliamentary Party Meeting To Discuss Government Succour Evacuate

Mar 23, Kathmandu:  The CPN-Maoist Center has prepared to withdraw the support given to the Lumbini provincial government.

Its Maoists have called a parliamentary party meeting. Jokh Bahadur Mahara, leader of the parliamentary party, informed that the parliamentary party meeting to be held today at 12 noon will discuss the issue of withdrawing the support given to the government.

UML's Lila Giri who was appointed Chief Minister on January 11 with the support of 56 MPs from 7 parties and 2 independents, took the vote of confidence on January 19. The Maoist Center, Jaspa, Janmat, Civil Liberation Party, Democratic Socialist Party, and CPN United Socialist Party gave the government a vote of confidence.

However, according to the changed power equation at the center, all these parties are against the state government. Similarly, the Rashtriya Jan Morcha, which did not give a vote of confidence to the Chief Minister, has joined the new alliance, while the RPP has come out in favor of the UML.

There are 27 MPs from Congress, 10 from Maoist Center, 3 from JSP 3 from Janmat, 3 from LSPA, and 4 from Civil Liberation Party in the Provincial Assembly. 44 votes are required for a majority in the 87-member provincial assembly. UML has 29 MPs.

According to Article 168 of the Constitution, if the process goes through, the largest party in the Provincial Assembly will form the government under the leadership of the UML. A new government will be formed as per article 168 sub-section 5 only if the government to be formed under the leadership of UML does not receive a vote of confidence.
