Referendum To Be Held In Australia To Address Indigenous Australians

Mar 23, Kathmandu- Australia has prepared a referendum to address the indigenous people of its country. According to the Qatari world channel Al Jazeera, the referendum will be held between October and December 2023.

Australia's left-leaning Labor Party Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the referendum. Despite the history of living in Australia for 65,000 years, a referendum has been announced because the 122-year-old Australian constitution does not address and respect the 3.8 percent of Aboriginal people there.

Prime Minister Albanese announced the referendum with an emotional speech saying that the life expectancy of Aboriginal people is 10 years less than that of other Australians, the suicide rate has doubled, and the problem of child mortality and disease is high.

Speaking about the referendum, he asked, "If not now, when?"
