Nepal's Population Reaches 29.1 Million(Full-Text)

Mar 24, Kathmandu: The population of Nepal has reached 291 million 64 thousand 578.

In the final and detailed report of the 12th Census 2022 AD published by the National Statistics Office on Friday, there are 142 lakh 53 thousand 551 (48.98 percent) males and 149 lahks 11 thousand 27 (51.02 percent) females in Nepal.

The number of other genders is two thousand 928. This is 0.001 percent of the total population. Earlier, the office published a preliminary report that the population of Nepal is 20 million 91 lacks 92 thousand 480 on January 26, 2022 AD.

In the detailed and final report, 27 thousand 902 less population is seen as 291 lahks 64 thousand 578. According to the National Census 2022 the reference day is kept on November 25, 2022 AD. The most populous district Kathmandu has a population of 2,41,587 while Manang has the least populated district i.e. 5,685 people.

According to the geographical area, 53.61 percent of the total population is in Terai (1 crore 56 lahks 34 thousand 6 people), 40.1 percent in the hills (1 crore 17 lakh 57 thousand 624 people), and 6.08 percent (17 lahks 72 thousand 948 people) in the Himalayan region.  The population is looking to the state-wise distribution of population, Bagmati Province has the highest population at 20.97 percent, and Karnali Province has the lowest at 5.79 percent.

1. The highest population growth rate in Bhaktapur

The highest growth rate has been seen in the Bhaktapur district. Here, it increased by 3.5 percent but the highest decrease was seen in the Ramechhap district. In this district, the population has decreased by 1.67 percent every year. 198 people live in one square kilometer Population density (population per square kilometer of area) has increased. Now it is seen that 198 people live in one square kilometer.

In the year 2012, only 180 people used to live there. According to the geographical area, the highest population density is 460 people per square kilometer in the Terai region and the lowest is 34 people per square kilometer in the Himalayan region. The highest population density is in the Kathmandu district. Five thousand 169 people live here in one square kilometer.

2. Only Three People Live In The Manang District

The number of families is 6,666,937. According to the report, there are now 6666 thousand 937 families in Nepal.

Among which individual families (single) 66 families are 60 thousand 841 and institutional families (joint) is 6 thousand 96. A household has an average of 4.37 members. In 2012, there were 4.88 people. In this way, it seems that the number of family members has decreased.

3. Living In City Increased But Decreased In Village

The population living in municipalities has increased. 66.17 percent of the total population lives in the municipality. Living in rural villages has decreased.

33.83 percent of the total population lives in villages. In the 2012 census, the population living in municipalities was 63.19 percent, while the population living in rural villages was 36.81 percent.

4. About 2.2 million Citizens of 1.5 Million Families Abroad

According to the census, about 2.2 million citizens are abroad. A total of 15 lahks 55 thousand 961 families have some members abroad. According to the statistics office, 21 lahks 90 thousand 592 people were absent from their families and stayed abroad.

Out of which 1.799 thousand 675 men (82.2 percent) and 390 thousand 917 women (17.8 percent) are women. According to the 2068 census, 19 lahks 21 thousand 494 people were absent from their families and often lived abroad.

5.3 Percent of Children Do Not Live With Both Parents

The total population of children under 18 years is 98 lahks 69 thousand 583 people. 7.9 percent of these children live with both parents. 17.1 percent of children live with their mothers alone. 1 percent of children living with their father and 3 percent of children live with other relatives.

6. 31 Percent of Households Are Headed By Women

There are a total of 6666 thousand 937 families in Nepal. Out of which 31.55 percent of the families are women. It is more than 5.82 percentage points compared to 2012.
