Twitter Set To Remove Legacy Blue Ticks From April 1

Mar 26, Kathmandu:  Micro-blogging site Twitter is going to completely cancel the complete rule of verification badge.

According to which, now according to the new method, the mark will be removed from the account of all those who have received the verification badge i.e. blue tick on Twitter. Twitter has announced that the old legacy verification program and the previously received verification checkmarks will be removed from Twitter accounts from April 1.

As a result, now only people who pay a monthly fee will get a blue tick on Twitter. In a tweet, the company said:  We will start shutting down our legacy verification program and will also remove the verification checkmark from legacy verification. In order to have their blue checkmark on Twitter, users need to sign up for Twitter Blue.

A monthly fee of $8 will be charged for Twitter account verification through the web, while a monthly fee of $11 will be charged for verification through the app. Twitter says its paid verification program is available worldwide.

3 types of verification badges

Twitter also launched a gold badge and a gray badge a few months ago. Which gold badge was for various organizations and the gray badge was for special people.

Twitter first started the verified account feature in 2009. Famous celebrities, politicians, companies, and brands as well as news agencies and other accounts of public interest were given a blue tick as a verification badge on Twitter to identify and prove that they are real.

But with the purchase of Twitter last year, Elon Musk announced that he would stop the free verification on the platform. He termed Twitter's legacy verification as corrupt and said that there was no option to remove it.
