What To Do When Bleeding During Labor?

Mar 26, Kathmandu: Bleeding during childbirth is normal. Bleeding can occur in both cases, be it by surgery or normal delivery.

After giving birth, a type of fluid flows from the uterus, which is called lochia in medical language. It comes out of the uterus during uterine contractions (the process of shrinking or returning to its original state). It seems to be a long time for some and a little for others. Its color is red like blood and thick. At first, its color gradually fades and the flow stops.

Although it looks like red blood, it is not pure blood. Such blood can usually flow for one to two weeks. Some people may still bleed after two weeks, but it gradually fades. This situation gradually decreases.

The bleeding did not stop

Sometimes there may be prolonged bleeding. There are some reasons for this. Bleeding may not stop if any tissue remains and becomes infected during delivery if the uterus does not contract properly, if there is a blood disorder, if there is a molar pregnancy (a pregnancy that looks like a grape seed instead of a whole pregnancy), if there is cancer of the mouth of the uterus (very rare) in pregnant women, and if the flesh grows in the inner layer of the uterus, the bleeding may not stop.

Sexual and reproductive problems

Problems such as the healing of wounds during childbirth, urinary infection, milk leakage, and infection in the uterus may occur. Because the opening of the cervix swells and enlarges during childbirth, there is a risk that the germs in the genitals can easily enter the uterus. In such a situation, it affects the health of both the mother and the child.

What to pay attention to during childbirth?

Eat nutritious food, and water and lose food more than usual. Attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the genitals. During its management, the blood pressure and pulse of the patient should be checked, the amount of blood loss should not be estimated, the blood should be checked, the shape of the uterus should be known whether it is properly contracted or not, and the mouth of the uterus should be checked whether it is open or not. Also, the mother should breastfeed the baby regularly. It also helps to restore the shape of the uterus. If there is an infection, you should consult a doctor immediately.
