Final Hearing In The Case Against Sandeep Lamichhane Starts Today

Mar 27, Kathmandu- The final hearing in the rape case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is going to start today.

District Court Kathmandu is going to start the final hearing in the Lamichhane case on Monday. A case of extortion was filed against Lamichhane, who is the former captain of the Nepali national cricket team, in the district court of Kathmandu on October 31.

Sandeep has been demanded to be sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crime of molesting a woman under 18 years of age. Sandeep has been accused of having committed an offense under Section 219 of Subsection (3) of Section 18 of the Civil Crimes Code, 2074.

In sub-section (3) of section 219, there is a provision of imprisonment for 10 to 12 years if a woman who is more than 16 years old or less than 18 years old is raped. A maximum of 12 years imprisonment has been demanded against Sandeep.

A 17-year-old girl had filed a complaint at Gaushal police station on September 6, saying that he had taken her to room number 305 of a hotel in Kathmandu and raped her repeatedly. The victim girl, during her statement with the police, said that Sandeep took her to Kathmandu and Nagarkot in Bhaktapur and then brought her back to Kathmandu and raped her in a hotel.

According to the victim girl's statement, it is claimed that Sandeep raped her in room number 305 of a hotel located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9 on August 21st at 12:55 PM. The girl also claims that Sandeep raped her at 12:25 PM on the same night. After filing a complaint saying that she was raped, the police also conducted a health check on the victim girl.

The girl, who is called the victim, and Sandeep got close through the social networking site 'Snapchat'. It is said that after some time after getting to know each other through Snapchat, Sandeep proposed to meet the girl and took the car to pick her up. It is said that Sandeep took the girl from Kathmandu to Bhaktapur around 6 o'clock on 21st August by keeping her in his car.

After that, they reached Nagarkot, the victim girl said. The girl says that Sandeep drank alcohol in Nagarkot and returned to Kathmandu from there. When they arrived, it was 11 o'clock at night and they had booked a room in a hotel saying that the hostel would be closed. According to the victim girl, Sandeep raped her in room number 305 of the same hotel.

After the incident, Sandeep, who had gone abroad to play cricket, was arrested and a diffusion notice was issued through Interpol, the international organization of the police. Then Sandeep was arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6th while returning to Nepal. Police Circle Gaushala kept her under custody and started a rape investigation against her.

The Kathmandu District Court, while conducting a preliminary hearing on the case, issued a remand order to send Sandeep to prison pending trial. Sandeep, who was imprisoned for a few months after the order of the district court, was released from prison with conditions after the order of the Patan High Court.

The High Court's condition of not being able to go abroad has been canceled by the Supreme Court. Sandeep, who returned to the cricket team after being released from jail after the order of the High Court, has also gone abroad to play cricket after the order of the Supreme Court.
