Preparations For Yak Festival In Charrate

Apr 04, Kathmandu- On the occasion of the new year, preparations have been made for the Yak Festival in Phalelung Rural Municipality 4 Charrate of Panchthar. Urban Development Minister Sita Gurung has prepared to inaugurate the festival which is going to be held in the border area of the high mountains.

The '6th Phalelung Yak Tourism Festival 2080' has been prepared with the aim of developing Yak culture and protecting biological diversity. A press conference was held at Panchthar headquarters Fidim, where a three-day festival was planned from April 13 to April 15.

The festival is going to be held at the border of Nepal, India's West Bengal, and Sikkim at an altitude of 3,560 meters. Bharat Khapangi, the spokesperson of the village municipality, informed that the festival was organized to preserve the Yak culture as it is becoming popular.

"Yak is not only the beauty of the high mountains but also the wealth", Khapangi said that the festival has been prepared considering the responsibility of the local government to protect the Yak.

Yak is found only in seven countries of the world. More than 500 yaks are expected to perform simultaneously at the festival. There are enough square barns in this area. The aim of the festival is to increase the potential of tourism here.

Organizers are preparing to invite more than 3,000 internal and external tourists to participate in the Yak Festival, which will be held in the uninhabited forested area. Along with Panchthar, the organizers are preparing to invite tourists from Eastern Nepal, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Kathmandu to India's Sikkim, Darjeeling, Kolkata, Siliguri, Bhutan, Burma and China to participate in the festival.

At the festival, stalls are prepared for dishes made from yak milk, products made from yak and sheep, and herbs and agricultural products found in the Lekali region. On this occasion, preparations have been made to lay the foundation stone of the longest and main footpath leading to the southern base camp of Kanchenjunga.

Phalelung Kanchenjunga Parya Tourism Promotion Organization and Deep Jyoti Youth Club are going to jointly organize the festival in which Phalelung Village is the main organizer.
