Movie 'Tulki' Based On Polygamy From Jestha 12th

May 06, Kathmandu- A decade ago, Rajendra Thakuri, the nephew of Mustangi Raja, a resident of Mustang, tried to make a film about the virginity of the polygamy system going on in Upper Mustang.

Despite various difficulties, it was the dream of filmmaker Thakuri to make a film about polygamy as his second project after the movie Muktidata, which was made on the subject of Mustang.

Although that dream of the producer Thakuri could not be fulfilled, now Tulki, a Nepali story film about the polygamy system of Dolpa, has been made, not Mustang. The Palm Group has added a new dimension by producing Tulki, a film on polygamy.

It is definitely not easy to make a movie in the traditional practice of one wife having more than one husband. The production company released the poster of the movie Tulki, which was completed only after a long study and research and spending a large budget, on the 12th of June.

According to the production company, the shooting of Tulki, the first movie based on polygamy, took place in remote villages such as Phoksundo, Tripurakot, Ralli, Karelikanda, and others in Dolpa district.

According to producer Shekhar Lama, polygamy, which still exists as a custom in the costumes of Himalayan districts like Dolpa, Humla, Mugu, Mustang, is shown through Tulki. In the movie, a girl who grew up in a different community in the lower area of Dolpa goes to Upallo after a love marriage and after going there, the tragic story of marital gang rape that she had to suffer in the name of custom is revealed in the movie.

Senior actors Shishir Wangdel, Som Lama, Swastima Karki, Ratnaprasad Neupane, Himali Neupane, Saujan Subba, Sophia Limbu, Narendra Tamang, Shekhar Lama, Bhaktasinh Kathayat, and others are acting in this movie. Babulal Lama is the executive producer of the film and DCN and Rich Entertainment have got the distribution.

The story of this movie is written by Laxman Sunar and the lyrics by Shekhar Lama. According to the production side, the movie was made after about four years of research and about one crore was spent.
