Sep 28, Kathmandu- Forward Rekha Paudel's goal saved the Nepali national women's football team from losing to Bangladesh. With this, Nepal has completed its journey to the 19th Asian Games by holding Bangladesh to a draw in the last match of the group stage.
Nepal and Bangladesh tied 1-1 and shared the points in the match held at the Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium on Thursday.
In the 83rd minute of the match, Rekha saved Nepal from defeat by scoring a pass from Sabitra Bhandari.
Before that, Bangladesh took the early lead in the 44th minute of the game with the goal of captain Savina Khatun.
Nepal, participating in Asiad for the first time, was defeated by Vietnam by 2-0 in the first match of the group stage. In the second game, Japan suffered a massive 8-0 defeat.
On the other hand, Bangladesh defeated Japan by a wide margin of 8-0 in the first match and handed over the result of 6-1 to Vietnam in the second match of the group stage.
Nepal, which is in Group D, was eliminated from the Asiad group stage by being in third place. Bangladesh has finished the Asiad at the bottom.
Nepal, which dominated Bangladesh in the previous matches, is winless in the last three to four matches.
Last year, Nepal lost to Bangladesh in the final of the SAFF Championship held at home. Since then, Nepal has not been able to beat Bangladesh. Earlier, in two friendly matches held in Bangladesh, Nepal and Bangladesh played a draw.
