Afghan Embassy In Delhi Shutting Down From Today

Sep 30, Kathmandu- The Afghan embassy in New Delhi will be closed from Saturday. A communication officer of the embassy said that due to the non-cooperation of the Indian government, the embassy had to be closed.

Most of the diplomatic staff who represented the Afghan government before the Taliban seized power in August 2021 have returned home, but no new appointments have been made to the vacancies.

India does not recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan. The Indian government has suspended its diplomatic presence there since the Taliban government returned to power.

In June 2022, New Delhi deployed only one technical team to coordinate Indian humanitarian assistance in the Afghan capital.

Sending a letter to the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 25, the Embassy of Afghanistan has informed that the embassy will be closed from September 30 due to lack of diplomatic behavior and structural support from the Indian government.

Last June, the Afghan ambassador to India, Farid Mamundzai, left India for Britain, stating that he had no political connection with the new regime.

It is mentioned in the written letter that, the Afghan embassy was forced to close the embassy due to the administrative and diplomatic non-cooperation of the relevant agencies of the Indian government, including the inability of the Afghan embassy to provide education, consular services, humanitarian assistance and help Afghan businessmen in business and trade issues, and the inability to support Afghan students who are waiting for higher education studies in various Indian universities. The said letter has also been made available to media in New Delhi and Kabul.

After the regime change in Afghanistan, India stopped issuing student visas, making it impossible for those enrolled in Indian educational institutions to return to New Delhi. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has refused to respond in this regard.
