Sep 30, Kathmandu- Health and Population Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet has said that the government has started the process of action in the cases of beatings on doctors in Birgunj-Hetauda and Pokhara.
Addressing the program organized on the occasion of Narayani Hospital in Birganj on Saturday, Basnet informed that the person involved in the beating of the doctor in Hetauda was arrested and the inspector was suspended in the incident in Pokhara. He said, "The process of action against those involved in the incidents against doctors in Hetauda and Pokhara's Manipal has been started," he said, "Those involved in the Hetauda incident have been arrested, and the inspector in the Pokhara incident has been suspended."
Minister Basnet insisted that he is a social worker rather than a health minister, an elected member of parliament, and a political worker, but he has been working even though he is not in office. He said that due to the high cost of the health sector in the country, even after selling his house, he had to come back from the balcony of the hospital without being able to pay the treatment expenses. He said that the condition of the Ministry of Health was very dirty, so he cleaned it.
Minister Basnet promised to start kidney transplant in Narayani Hospital soon for the development of health sector in eight districts of Madhes.
He said that if a donor comes for the arrangement of kidney transplant, he will bring it to Narayani Hospital first of all. Basnet said that after cutting the budget of the health sector which was 40%, only 4.8% was in the Ministry of Budget, so he increased the budget after persuasion.
He pointed out that there is a need to increase the posts of doctors, nursing, and paramedics to solve the problems seen in the health sector and prevent disorderly activities. Basnet also informed that although the Medical Education Act has improved a few things in remote areas, as there is a need to amend the Medical Education Act, he will continue to improve the Medical Education Act as long as he is in the position of minister.
