The Nepal Telecommunication Authority has said that the MDMS system will be fully implemented from Monday. Purushottam Khanal, Chairman of the Authority, has informed that after the implementation of this system, phones that are not registered in the system will be gradually blocked.
According to Khanal, with the implementation of MDMS, no SIM card will work in illegal or illegally imported mobile phones. Those phones will be blocked. The authority issued a notice only on 4th October last and asked the service users to register the mobile handsets which are not registered in MDMS within 15 days.
It also said that mobile telecommunication services will be suspended as per the rules for mobile handsets that are not registered in the system within 15 days from the date of notification. Accordingly, the authority is going to implement MDMS from today. According to Khanal, chairman of the authority, it will be applied to high-range mobile handsets initially.
