Nov 27, Kathmandu- Under the 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation', the newly constructed school building of Sri Pokharbindi Secondary School located in Bhatpurwa, Rohini Rural Municipality-2 of Rupandehi District was inaugurated on Monday with the financial support of Rs 1.25 crore from the Government of India.

Vice President Ram Sahaya Yadav formally inaugurated the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu in the presence of Acting Ambassador Prasanna Srivastava. Political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students were also present in the program. The Government of India grant under 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' was used for the construction of the two-storied school building.

Under the agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Nepal, this project, previously known as the Small Development Project, has been promoted as a high-impact community development project. The Embassy informed that this project has been implemented through the District Coordination Committee, Rupandehi. Speaking at the event, Honorable Vice President Yadav appreciated the support given by the Indian government for the development of infrastructure in the educational and other diverse fields of Nepal and said that the development partnership between the two countries has contributed greatly to strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries.

Acting Ambassador Srivastava asserted that this project is an important part of the strong development partnership between India and Nepal. Sri Pokharbindi Secondary School was established in 1959. Since then, the school has been providing quality education in a good educational environment by providing education up to class 10 to the students of this area. More than 600 students are studying in the school, including about 555 female students.

Since 2003, more than 550 high-impact community development projects have been initiated in various areas of Nepal and 488 projects have been completed. 60 of these projects are located in Lumbini region and 12 projects are located in Rupandehi.

In addition, the Government of India has given 974 ambulances and 234 school buses as gifts to various hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions of Nepal on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day, out of which 160 ambulances and 35 school buses have been given as gifts to Lumbini Province. So far, 29 ambulances and 14 school buses have been provided to Rupandehi district.
