Nov 30, Kathmandu- Karnali Province Police Office has banned policemen from using phones during duty. Since the police personnel on duty started to get busy on various social media, the office has implemented the rule that they cannot use their phones effectively from Thursday.
Along with this, the office has instructed the policemen on duty to pick up the phone and make calls during emergencies, but not to use social media.
"Except for making a mandatory phone call, watching TikTok, watching videos was prohibited from earlier," Senior Superintendent of Police Gopalchandra Bhattarai, spokesperson of the office, said, "From now on, smartphones cannot be used effectively for other purposes except for the purpose of communication during duty. We have implemented the rules."
He says that the police should be careful about everything and concentrate on their duty, so if they forget about social media, their work will not be effective. According to him, the police on duty can carry a phone and make calls when they receive a call or when they need to make a call. Apart from that, he said that the commander assigned to the duty will monitor the other activities.
"There should be immediate communication in the police, so there is no need to take orders to make or receive calls," he said, "We have made the policemen and commanders who are on duty responsible not to use their phones unnecessarily during duty. If someone uses it, they should be held accountable, and in some cases, they will have to face punishment."
In this way, the office believes that security monitoring will be effective when the police are on duty without using their mobile phones, investigations will be successful immediately if there is a crime, and police personnel can be protected from the misuse of social media.
