Dec 02, Kathmandu- During the first quarter of the current financial year 2080/81, more than 57 billion 710 million of public debt has been added. According to the Public Debt Management Office, the public debt, which was equal to 2 trillion 299 billion 352 million 400 thousand by the end of last Ashadha, has exceeded 23 trillion 57 billion 6 billion by the end of Kartik.
According to the statistics of the office up to the end of last Kartik, Nepal's outstanding domestic debt is 1 trillion 183 billion 572 million 100 thousand rupees and external debt is 1 trillion 173 billion 796 million 600 thousand rupees.
In the four months of the current year, the government has paid 65 billion 458 million 300 thousand rupees in interest payment on internal debt and 16 billion 186 million 100 thousand rupees in interest payment on external debt.
Overviewing the debt collection situation of the same period, from Shrawan to the end of Kartik, a total of 1 trillion 316 billion 300 million loans have been raised with internal loans equal to 97 billion 310 million and external loans of 15 billion 853 million.
During the first quarter of the current year, the expenditure incurred on principal and interest payments of public debt is almost three times more than the capital expenditure incurred by the government. By the end of last Kartik, the government had spent capital expenditure equal to 29 billion 989 million 400 thousand rupees. In the same period, it has spent 81 billion 644 million and 400 thousand rupees on the payment of principal and interest of the public debt.
