Feb 05, Kathmandu- Cinema halls across the country have been closed today in protest against the tax.
As a symbolic protest, the Nepal Film Association banned the screening of the film on Monday.
The association says that the government is impractically collecting 36 percent tax. The union has demanded that it should be abolished, saying that various taxes such as film development fees, local entertainment tax, etc. have created a situation in which the film business cannot be operated. Currently, 150 cinema halls are operating in Nepal.
We are preparing to give a memorandum to the government. We will move forward step by step according to the response from this. Today, symbolically, the hall was closed for one day, now we are moving towards initiatives,' said Narendra Maharjan, general secretary of the association.
