Additional tax in the tourism sector should be reconsidered: President Dhakal

Mar 28, Kathmandu- Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the additional tax imposed by the government in the tourism sector should be reconsidered.

In the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee under the House of Representatives held on Thursday at Singha Durbar, Chairman Dhakal said that the additional tax imposed in various areas will affect the tourism sector and that the additional tax should be reconsidered.

He said that because the last budget increased the luxury tax on air tickets and hotels, it discouraged the tourism sector and it should be corrected. Similarly, Dhakal said that since Indians used to perform wedding ceremonies outside the country, they should be able to attract such ceremonies to Nepal.

He said that if the number of Indian tourists who come to Nepal for marriage ceremonies can be increased due to the open border between Nepal and India, this region will be on a leap. Dhakal said that while making the Tourism Board effective, a tax force should be prepared by including the private sector as well.

The committee has discussed with the Federation of Nepal Industry and Commerce on matters related to tourism and aviation. Chairman of the committee Raj Kishore Yadav informed that this matter will be discussed again with the Minister of Tourism.
