Education Minister On The Way To End Party Politics In The Education Sector

Apr 16, Kathmandu- Education Science and Technology Minister Sumana Shrestha, who has published the report of the Medical Education Commission, which has been hidden for 6 years, is now determined to end party politics in the education sector.

Minister of Education Shrestha called on Chaitra 18th to file a complaint if there is evidence that professors, teachers or staff have engaged in party politics. After receiving a complaint in the ministry about teachers being members of political parties and active politics, she has started discussions about taking action against teachers who are affiliated to political parties. At the same time, Education Minister Shrestha has reached the Election Commission office today. She did not discuss with the Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapalia about the implementation of the law as the current law prohibits teachers from engaging in politics. In the discussion, the Education Minister has sought the help of the Election Commission to identify the teachers who are doing politics. Chief Commissioner Thapalia has assured that the Commission will support the implementation of the law banning teachers from politics.

Minister Shrestha, who has prioritized school education, higher education, promotion of good governance, scholarships, educational quality testing and foreign relations during her one month tenure, has vowed to end political interference in the education sector. In recent years, the Ministry of Education, which has been at a slow pace, has become active after Sumana became the Minister.
